Should You Change Every Year?đź’ś

New year, New Me - Dead It!

Hey there,

Let’s have a quick chat about something that’s been on my mind lately.

You know, back then I felt like I was too nice, and honestly, people took advantage of that. It didn’t help that I was short, so they literally looked down on me.

When people did things that weren’t nice, instead of apologizing, they’d brush it off with, “It’s Ruth, she’ll forgive us.” That used to get to me, and I decided I had to change. I wanted to be mean so no one would mess with me again. Honestly, I didn’t even care if it meant losing friends because I was tired of being treated like a pushover.

I even started watching those high school queen bee movies and mimicking their straight-faced, strong expressions. People said I was always smiling, and that made me look too approachable. So, I tried to change that too. But did I succeed?

The answer is NO. I didn’t. I couldn’t. And here’s why—I wasn’t the problem. Changing wasn’t going to stop people’s attitudes toward me. I can’t control their actions.

So how did I cope with the criticism and unfairness? Honestly, I just ignored it. I stopped caring if anyone was saying something bad about me or not. And you know what? I’ve never felt more at peace.

Now, back to the main gist of today. The year is coming to an end, and everyone’s gearing up for next year. Soon, you’ll start seeing the motivational posts about “New Year, New Me.”

But here’s my take: Should we change every year? NO. Focus only on things that help with self-discovery and improvement. Don’t change yourself because of what people say or how they treat you. Take it from me.

Your trusty friend,
